My squeaking bathroom door

Every time anyone goes in an out of our bathroom at night I can hear it because the bathroom door squeaks. I've asked by husband to fix it so many times that I am sick of the sound of my voice. I am getting a contractor to fix the job and do all of the other jobs on my husband's to do list. I am sick of nagging him, so I'm hiring in someone to get rid of all of these little issues. This blog is for other fed up wives who just want to see their houses fixed like they asked.

The Top Benefits of Using Bricks as Retaining Wall Materials

Blog

Retaining walls are functional and aesthetic additions to your landscape. They prevent surface runoff (and erosion), especially if you have sloped sections on your property. In addition, retaining walls can prevent flooding, add an attractive element to your property and increase your overall property value. Generally, there's a wide range of materials you can choose from when it comes to retaining walls for your property. They differ in style, durability, strength, functionality and cost, among other factors that you will need to consider when deciding on the best material for you. However, brick is one of the most sought-after retaining wall materials. Here's why.

Strength And Durability

Brick is one of the most durable retaining wall materials you will find. It is naturally resistant to several elements that would otherwise compromise its durability. First, it's highly weather and moisture resistant. The material can handle any type of weather including extreme temperatures, storms and snow, without giving in to the harsh conditions. In addition, unlike wood or timber retaining walls, it's not susceptible to vermin and rotting. Brick is also chemical resistant. Therefore, compared to retaining wall materials like limestone, you don't have to worry about weathering resulting from rainwater with high chemical content. And if you live in an area that's prone to bushfires, you can rest assured that your brick retaining walls will maintain their structural integrity because of the material's excellent fire resistance.

Ease Of Installation And Transport

Brick may not be the most lightweight retaining wall material, especially when compared to other options like wood. However, it's also not as heavy as other options like natural stone and boulders, which are comparably heavier. Therefore, handling such materials during transportation and installation can be more complex. On the other hand, bricks are fairly lightweight materials that can be handled more easily.

Versatility

Versatility is another reason to consider brick as the material for your property's retaining walls. That's because brick is available in several different types based on usage, composition, quality, manufacturing process etc. Therefore, you can always find an option that works best for your application. For instance, when it comes to composition, burnt clay bricks, concrete bricks, sand-lime bricks and fire clay bricks are some options you will find. On the other hand, fired and sun-dried bricks are the primary options when you consider the manufacturing process. And when considering your application, facing bricks, engineering bricks, acid-resisting bricks and high-temperature-resisting bricks are some options to look for. The options are virtually limitless. Therefore, work with your contractor to determine what type of brick to use for your brick retaining walls
